2018 Summer Champs: The Wolverines!

Congrats to the 2018 Summer champions, the Wolverines!  It was a hard-fought game by both teams.  Wolverines were trailing in the 2nd but a comeback was sparked by not one, but TWO short-handed goals by Other Skursky.  Game winning goal scored by #8, Mike Mera (I think).

Missing from photo is Original Skursky due to being at ER getting his broken, cut finger repaired.

Enjoy your Labor Day.  Fall season starts on the 9th!

Summer champs: Waterbury Wolverines!

OTHC Members,
Congratulations are in order, as The Summer SBC Cup was presented to the Waterbury Wolverines in the Championship Game. It was a great game, 6-4 upsetting the Mustangs, that played a tough one… It was an easy call to name John Crognale as the MVP, as he was all over the ice and the score sheet!
Now, it’s time to get our core teams back together to get the Fall Season under way… Watch your Email and check out our Web site: http://www.othc35.org/

It was a hard-fought game with two Viper players suffering lower-body injuries that would take them out of the game.  In the end, the Loons prevailed 4-3.

Viper goal scoring by Dave Danielowski, Dave Hutchinson, and Ryan Withrow.

Loon scoring by Steve Schuman, Chris Cole, and a pair by Mark Makowski.

Misfits Hockey – Bobbi Reid Fedele notches her first win as…

Bobbi Reid Fedele notches her first win as Captain of the redesigned Misfits for winter 2016. With the addition of a few new faces for the winter season the Misfits would battle the Steelheads in a tight game that ended 2-2 after three periods of play. It was Bobbi’s brother Jesse that’s been battling a hamstring injury he inccurred while playing last season that would net the game winner in Overtime.
Joey Onda would get the Misfits on the board in the first period and rejoining the team this season, defenseman Mike Gaudette, would give the Misfits a one goal lead until with just a few seconds left in the second period the Steelheads would find a loose puck from a shot taken just above the left face-off circle and tie the game at 2. Both teams had their opportunities to take the lead during the third period but were denied by solid goaltending at each end of the ice. A slight bit of confusion came at the end of regulation as the officials weren’t aware of the tie game protocol in the OTHC rule book but Commish Chris Becker was on hand to give clarification and play resumed with 5 on 5 for a five minute overtime.
Final : Misfits 3 – Steelheads 2 (O.T.)

The championship game is a rematch of last week’s game between the Loons and Vipers.  Last week was close (going to OT) and we expect the same this week. The Vipers would need to get into the Finals if the MisFits upset the Squid. ‘Price Chopper Ed’ has Waigers falling to the playing surface and was seen throwing $30 in Cold Cash over the glass as incentive….it did Pay off! Captain MisFit, Mike Mera ripped a shot in the final minutes of Play to seal the deal… Here is how all of the Teams Finished:

Update: Week #9

OTHC Members,
This Sunday is our Final week of the Regular season… as soon as we get all of this week’s results in, we will have an early announcement for the Playoff Schedule. Last Sunday’s Schedule has us playing a Sunday Morning game as a Trial option that the Captains both planned and informed their players at the beginning of this season. What we are finding out is that the attendance was still missing a good Third of their players each team; and that Sunday mornings are typically not the best option for those busy families, most of them are out attending sports events, etc…  Continue to give us your Feedback…
I would like to say Thank You and Safe Travels to Trapper Payne for playing the Summer Session, and most of this Fall Season with us in OTHC. Trapper has been a great fit, and has gone back home to Montana until April. He has been working on PPL Transmission Power Line projects here and will be back for a few years to continue work; and has said he loves OTHC and will continue playing some Hockey withe the Boys. What we learned from Trapper is that you definitely need to wear a Facemask around these Parts!

And then there were SIX….
Every team has been in this situation.  You show up for the game, and you realize that you have to take the ice that night with only 1 sub.  And when that day comes, you can COUNT on the other team having a FULL bench. That was exactly what happened this past Sunday for the Blue Squid.  With 6 players out of town for work, and another LATE SCRATCH, the Squid were down to 6 + a Goalie (no sub rule…as it should be!).  The Misfits had the entire crew available, including the legend Rob Rozanski making his first appearance in several weeks.

Early on, the Squid tried to slow things down, but the Misfits were coming hard.  Misfits were on the board late in first period as a “stealth” Mera hid on the side of the net and was able to put a rebound into a wide open net. Early in the 2nd period, a blistering Rozanski slapshot through 3 players knocked the water bottle off the net and gave the Misfits a solid 2-0 lead.

Squid kept fighting…2 goals within a 2 minute stretch had the game all square at the end of the 2nd period.  In the third, the Squid reeled off 4 straight goals all while playing solid defense.  Nothing fancy.  Clear the puck, ice the puck, cover the puck. Rozanski got the Misfits within 3 late in the third period, but an empty net goal with a minute left sealed the win.
Squid 7 – Misfits 3.
