Week 10 Update

OTHC Members,
The Iron Man Tournament (announcement is at the bottom of this message) has extra room in the OTHC Division…B Division was Cancelled out, so we can fit another team or so.
Movember brings us lots of “Flow” and Facial growth, Jagr has even been bringing back the Mullet! Still fashionable for your PLAYOFF Runs, that will begin this Sunday. The top finishing Teams have earned their way into an easier Schedule run of playing the teams finishing with a weaker showing in the Standings It will be a Points-Based Tournament for 3 weeks. With 2 Points for every win and 1 for a Tie, many teams end up close in the Standings. Keep in mind that Goals Against(GA) becomes an important determining factor. Here is a look at the Stats & Standings from our Regular Season play. OverTime format will continue to be the same as used in Regular Season Play (5-on-5 for 5 mins). Only the Final Night of play becomes a Sudden-Death format.

Decor, events to reintroduce shoppers to Mall at Steamtown – Business – The Times-Tribune

OK, not really related to our league or even hockey, but it is related to ice skating at least.

If you live in the Scranton area and have kids, this could make for nice holiday tradition.  The mall is going to have a (small) synthetic ice rink for skating.

■ Ice-skating rink.

From Dec. 19 through 23, a 40-by-20-foot synthetic ice-skating rink will be assembled on the first floor of the mall, with skate rental available for a yet-to-be-determined fee.

No, we can’t play hockey on it and it’s only seasonal.   But if gets a lot of use this year, maybe next year it’ll be bigger.  Maybe with enough use, the new owner could be convinced to put in a full-sized “real” ice rink.  Sure, it would be expensive but it’s been done before: Ice Palace at Monroeville Mall near Pittsburgh, PA

Update: Week #9

OTHC Members,
This Sunday is our Final week of the Regular season… as soon as we get all of this week’s results in, we will have an early announcement for the Playoff Schedule. Last Sunday’s Schedule has us playing a Sunday Morning game as a Trial option that the Captains both planned and informed their players at the beginning of this season. What we are finding out is that the attendance was still missing a good Third of their players each team; and that Sunday mornings are typically not the best option for those busy families, most of them are out attending sports events, etc…  Continue to give us your Feedback…
I would like to say Thank You and Safe Travels to Trapper Payne for playing the Summer Session, and most of this Fall Season with us in OTHC. Trapper has been a great fit, and has gone back home to Montana until April. He has been working on PPL Transmission Power Line projects here and will be back for a few years to continue work; and has said he loves OTHC and will continue playing some Hockey withe the Boys. What we learned from Trapper is that you definitely need to wear a Facemask around these Parts!

Highlights:
And then there were SIX….
Every team has been in this situation.  You show up for the game, and you realize that you have to take the ice that night with only 1 sub.  And when that day comes, you can COUNT on the other team having a FULL bench. That was exactly what happened this past Sunday for the Blue Squid.  With 6 players out of town for work, and another LATE SCRATCH, the Squid were down to 6 + a Goalie (no sub rule…as it should be!).  The Misfits had the entire crew available, including the legend Rob Rozanski making his first appearance in several weeks.

Early on, the Squid tried to slow things down, but the Misfits were coming hard.  Misfits were on the board late in first period as a “stealth” Mera hid on the side of the net and was able to put a rebound into a wide open net. Early in the 2nd period, a blistering Rozanski slapshot through 3 players knocked the water bottle off the net and gave the Misfits a solid 2-0 lead.

Squid kept fighting…2 goals within a 2 minute stretch had the game all square at the end of the 2nd period.  In the third, the Squid reeled off 4 straight goals all while playing solid defense.  Nothing fancy.  Clear the puck, ice the puck, cover the puck. Rozanski got the Misfits within 3 late in the third period, but an empty net goal with a minute left sealed the win.

8 Week Update

OTHC Members,

All Games are on time and should be played as expected…. Start some heavy Recruiting for The Iron Man Tournament (announcement is at the bottom of this message). Many OTHC members are expected, so start signing your fellow OTHC prospects now for your Roster.
This Just in:  The SteelHeads pull the Loons underwater and have them for Breakfast by score of 5 to 3. Loons would thrash and put up a good fight to stay in first place, with a few late threatening goals in our first ever Sunday Morning edition OTHC game. It was a good match-up for the Fans still dressed in their Sunday-best. These two teams had their Captains agree before the season started that they would trial a morning game. Now in the Books… unfortunately the Schedule does not permit other opportunities at this time. Thank You- Rich Chernin for bailing us out on last minute Score Keeping!!
Next Sunday is our Final week of the Regular season… as soon as we get all of this week’s results in, we will have an early announcement by Tuesday for the Playoff Schedule.
