Winter 2019 Season Registration & Draft

Welcome back everyone to another great season of Sunday Night Hockey. And Congratulations to the Brewinsonce again, for making it through another tough Fall Season Playoff Run. Here is the OTHC Facebook Group live update from the Penalty Box, in case you missed it:

“The Team that drinks together, Wins together. Congrats to the Brewins for taking back the Kielbasa Cup, as These guys played through Two games to get there. Two was the key number; 2 Wins, 2 Hat Trix by Rick Malcolm and just 2 Goals allowed by Charlie Chuck Ritchie, so Two MVPs right there. The Steel-Loons took home the Spam Cup over on Rink #1. Honorable mention goes to all of the OTHC guys coming out in foul weather.”

We are happy to announce that we will have an 8th team joining us for Winter 2019 season. The Revolution Icers (Listed as Madhatters) will be sponsored by Revolution Ice Centre and made up of Rink Employees, Knights Parents Coaches, and Russ! OTHC Welcomes New Owner

If you’re not aware, Revolution has a new owner this season.  You may have noticed the start of some improvements inside and outside of the rink.  Let’s show the new owner what OTHC is all about and remember to keep the locker rooms clean and throw out any trash.  Who knows, maybe we’ll get some better times in the future.

For updates on the rink, watch their facebook page.

2018 Summer Champs: The Wolverines!

Congrats to the 2018 Summer champions, the Wolverines!  It was a hard-fought game by both teams.  Wolverines were trailing in the 2nd but a comeback was sparked by not one, but TWO short-handed goals by Other Skursky.  Game winning goal scored by #8, Mike Mera (I think).

Missing from photo is Original Skursky due to being at ER getting his broken, cut finger repaired.

Enjoy your Labor Day.  Fall season starts on the 9th!

2018 Summer Championship

The season comes down to the Waterbury Wolverines facing off against the Charlestown Chiefs at 8PM on August 26, 2018!  These two teams met 3 times during the regular season with the Wolverines taking 2 of the 3 games.  All three games were close 1 or 2-goal games so we expect a game at the championship!

Back on the Ice!

OTHC back in action tongiht after a week of for the Burke tournament!

Just a reminder of the Old Time Hockey culture we are trying to foster, in giving the Rookies to the game a little extra room to make a play. Nobody will really remember who won the Beer league Cup in summer of 2018, but all of our members will know who the good-natured guys are, and have respect for how they play the game. That’s the Locker Room that guys want to be in, the one that is fun and shares each game as a real TEAM.

I wrote this in Summer of 2016 and it captures it best in serving as an example from how one of the Rookies that played on my team, saw the game after playing elsewhere:

“Congratulations to Brian Brown for Scoring  his first OTHC Goal last week, snapping a quick rebound in for Wolverines goal. Brian has only played for 3 years and is keeping up pace in this Summer’s high-skilled action. He spent some frustrating years playing in another league down the road and I wanted to share his enthusiasm about playing here. Letting Brian figure it out on his own, I was really happy to hear why he likes this league so much more. He went on and on about “Hotshots” and playing with selfish guys in that other league, so this was refreshing to hear.

What struck me as a breakthrough for ALL of our players here that I am proud to share with all of you, was what he said about You guys in OTHC. He said, “The better players will not be selfish and shoulder me off the puck EVERY time I get near the puck. They tend to give me a chance, where I can pass or shoot. I am telling my brother that it is worth the drive up from down Philly way.” Wow, Brian’s 3 week observation is exactly what we have emphasized in every discussion, meeting, and update over the years. So, when a complete outsider comes into our league and picks up on that, it is a tribute to our Captains and mostly our Players for playing by that standard and giving guys like Brian some room to make a play. Thank You for understanding and for also playing unselfish hockey without the drama. The refs and I have seen few penalties, and some great games….Thank You!”

Please make sure you have a Matching Team Jersey, and a unique Jersey Number!

Summer 2018, week 3 update

OTHC Members,

Hope everyone enjoyed their Holiday. Back to Hockey tonight at 6:30 and 8:00 for the rest of July. I would like to welcome ourRookies into OTHC summer season. We have a unique collection of newbies spread out on all our various teams and they have great things to say about the league. Announcing: Gary Myers & Rob Cruz of Mustangs, Gerald Shemanski of Chiefs, Wayne Frey, John Skursky & David Mooers of Wolverines, and Matt Considine, Chris Hartmann, and Lucas Mark(son of Alex) of the Bombers. Long-time member Alex Mark is appreciating a unique opportunity to play with his son. And speaking of long-time members, “Chewey” has made a come-back out of retirement with a new hip; to play between the pipes once again. A lot of great stories here…

This is Gary and Gerald’s first time ever playing organized Hockey. And I covered how proud I was that the Mustangs have embraced Gary and they work at developing and setting him up for big plays. Not to be outdone, we saw the Chiefs setup Gerald Shemanski the same way, and he came through with beuatiful Game-tieing & Game Winning goals under encouragement from Coach Santa & the boys in blue.

This is the culture we are trying to foster here, so please take note and give the new guys a little extra room to make a play. Nobody will really remember who won the Beer league Cup in summer of 2018, but all of our members will know who the good-natured guys are, and have respect for how they play the game. That’s the Locker Room that guys want to be in, the one that is fun and shares each game as a real TEAM.

TAILGATING/FOOD:
**NOTE: You may see Food assignments above, However we have not yet begun Hosting. Highlighting left in place for illustration to Captains of what Food-Hosting could be for One-Team-Each scenario if we begin on 7/17.
Many of the guys are missing the food, so we encourage everyone to bring a little something along until we can find a Food Truck or something of the sort. We are trying to get the Knights parents to come Host, and any ideas or connections to a Food Truck are appreciated. We may have each team Host at least one time. I know Danny K is ready to break out his apron.

League Chirps:

Feel free to send me anything you want to contribute anything to be shared with the rest of the Members. Even advertising for your Business, as our Members like to deal with Guys they know, and who won’t check from behind!

NOTE: For Summer season, we may not be sending regular Weekly Updates unless there is news or content to Report. If you see something, say something!
