Summer 2018, week 3 update

OTHC Members,

Hope everyone enjoyed their Holiday. Back to Hockey tonight at 6:30 and 8:00 for the rest of July. I would like to welcome ourRookies into OTHC summer season. We have a unique collection of newbies spread out on all our various teams and they have great things to say about the league. Announcing: Gary Myers & Rob Cruz of Mustangs, Gerald Shemanski of Chiefs, Wayne Frey, John Skursky & David Mooers of Wolverines, and Matt Considine, Chris Hartmann, and Lucas Mark(son of Alex) of the Bombers. Long-time member Alex Mark is appreciating a unique opportunity to play with his son. And speaking of long-time members, “Chewey” has made a come-back out of retirement with a new hip; to play between the pipes once again. A lot of great stories here…

This is Gary and Gerald’s first time ever playing organized Hockey. And I covered how proud I was that the Mustangs have embraced Gary and they work at developing and setting him up for big plays. Not to be outdone, we saw the Chiefs setup Gerald Shemanski the same way, and he came through with beuatiful Game-tieing & Game Winning goals under encouragement from Coach Santa & the boys in blue.

This is the culture we are trying to foster here, so please take note and give the new guys a little extra room to make a play. Nobody will really remember who won the Beer league Cup in summer of 2018, but all of our members will know who the good-natured guys are, and have respect for how they play the game. That’s the Locker Room that guys want to be in, the one that is fun and shares each game as a real TEAM.

Please make sure you have a Matching Team Jersey, and a unique Jersey Number!

Stop in the Pro Shop, we may even have a Loaner…and if you borrowed one from us, PLEASE return it…Thanks.

A 2 min Minor for Delay of game can be called on heathens that can’t dress properly.

TAILGATING/FOOD:
**NOTE: You may see Food assignments above, However we have not yet begun Hosting. Highlighting left in place for illustration to Captains of what Food-Hosting could be for One-Team-Each scenario if we begin on 7/17.
Many of the guys are missing the food, so we encourage everyone to bring a little something along until we can find a Food Truck or something of the sort. We are trying to get the Knights parents to come Host, and any ideas or connections to a Food Truck are appreciated. We may have each team Host at least one time. I know Danny K is ready to break out his apron.

League Chirps:

Feel free to send me anything you want to contribute anything to be shared with the rest of the Members. Even advertising for your Business, as our Members like to deal with Guys they know, and who won’t check from behind!

NOTE: For Summer season, we may not be sending regular Weekly Updates unless there is news or content to Report. If you see something, say something!

OTHC Hockey Update – Winter 2018 Finals

OTHC Members,

The Loons and MisFits face off in the Kielbasa Cup Final in this week’s 7:00pm game. These two teams have battled through 5 weeks of Playoffs to earn their place in this Game. OTHC is no cake walk on the long and winding Playoff road, we may enjoy some cake(and Sausage) after the game, but what happens on the Ice burns enough calories to stay after the game for a Slice. Earning “Beer of the Game” (incentive adopted from Brewin’s Bachman) for Loons, was Leslie Lyness who was a stone wall on D. Meanwhile in the other Semi-Final game, many different MisFits players were contributing. One of the prettiest Goals of the season was re-directed in by Joe Demanicor on a Jesse Benedict feed from the corner. The Table is set for a Great game!

All other teams are Scheduled to play in the Final week of the season for the Jerky Cup and Spam Cups. Teams have been plugged-in, so please check Schedule for May 20th  Below -> I really encourage everyone to show up for their Final game of the season, or tell their Captain if they can’t make it.

We’ll find a way to televise NHL Playoffs… so make it out for the Finals.

Good Luck Boys!

OTHC Hockey Update- Winter 2018 Standings & Playoff Schedule

OTHC Members,

We have the final Standings figured out for the Seedings and the Schedule is updated with those Teams for the remainder. Tiebreakers had to be Used and “head-to-head” wins are prioritized over Goals Against and were used in determining our Standings as you see them below.

It’s the Playoffs! It’s a special time where the guys in the Locker room hold on the odds and keeping their fight alive, like the Monty Python Black Knight held on to his sword…until he had no arms. So, everyone has a good shot at an Upset and coming off a Loss with a mere Flesh wound. Hey, Best of luck to all our Teams. I came across some insightful words to take a little edge off things to get this party started:

http://www.beerleaguetalk.com/the-3-players-that-ruin-beer-league-playoffs-for-everyone-2/

(Be sure to PAUSE the Podcast Soundtrack at the top of Page, just under Menu button for “BLOG”)

The Closing line is one nobody can dispute:

“On the real…let’s all settle down & have a beer or three because at the end of the game, winning a trophy or not, it’s all about having brewskies with the boys (or ladies)!”

Speaking of the Boys, I want to Thank everyone for showing the colors and support for The Humboldt Broncos. Even the Refs wore green & gold armbands in their honor. Carl Karaska, Eric Pucilowski, Chris Novrocki, & Lance Tost all contributed ideas and helped us setup the NHL Playoffs Bracket. Track it at:

 https://bracketchallenge.nhl.com/leagues/nepa-hockey-leagues

It’s 10 bucks is all. This will be treated as a 50/50. The other 50% serves as a Donation to the Humboldt Broncos Junior Hockey players Go Fund me account. Again if you want in, set up your account, stop in and pay at the shop! Those who don’t pay just wont be included on the cash side of things. Hat Trick Hockey Pro Shop will also sweeten pot with some prizes for Paid participants like Hats, Sex Wax, Tape, Sharpenings, and T30 composite stick

OTHC Hockey Update- Winter 2018 Week #8

OTHC Members,
Huge Thanks to The Vipers for starting off things with a Great opening of Hosting Tailgating with 24 ft of delicious Subs from Cangianos Deli….great Job Guys!! And another Big Thanks to the Brewins with a last minute Line Change for Hosting Tailgating tonight, exchanging dates with the Blue Squid for a later week.
We just ask that Players keep it contained to the Lobby and don’t take food all over the building and into the Locker Rooms. Please lend a small hand in keeping things clean and not leaving a trail of chips all over the mats. The whole idea is to socialize as a Club and to promote camaraderie in OTHC…. with just One week of hosting leading to SEVEN weeks of enjoying Tailgating is a pretty good deal!

Remember there is always one team dedicated on Clean-up, which if the whole team pitches in, should take only 5 mins…Thanks for your compliance

OTHC Hockey Update- Winter 2018 Week #5

OTHC Members,

USA Women’s Hockey & Men’s Curling teams have brought home the Gold. Not hearing much discussion about it? Does anyone watch the Olympics anymore? …Is this thing on? There seems to be certain circles of people that do like the Thrill of Victory, even some dwelling on agony of defeat(Sorry, Dr Mott & Canadian Mike!).  Our spirited circles are full of fun and interesting people, we just need to expand and include more of our members. This is what a Hockey Club is about….not just showing up to play a game and depart 1.5 hrs later. We are looking to share the spirit and comraderie of the league with ALL of our members.

We’ll start off by sharing some Traditional Tailgating on 3/11 with Vipers hosting. At the bottom of this Email you’ll also see a “Special Events” heading, where we are looking to get some members together and rent Ice for some bonus League gatherings. Think about it, and add your input on what could be interesting for our Club.

REGISTRATION:

  • Registration Period Closed
  • Any player not completing Registration will now be removed from Rosters. Your Name must appear on Roster and You Must SIGN-IN,  in order to take the Ice.

Special Events:

I am looking for more OTHC involvement in bonus events for our Hockey Club. Ice Times are available to do our own Rental and hold some extra On-ice events. Possibilities are endless: All-Star game, Alumni games, OTHC vs Bethlehem/Binghamton/Reading +35 League guys.

I typically get a “Hey Beck, we should do ???” and So, I have tried to put many things together and attendance has been poor lately, like Stew’s retirement party where even Stew didn’t show up! If anyone has a strong idea and some Member’s support and involvement; I’ll surely help promote and make it happen.

For now, we’ll start with bringing Tailgating back by popular opinion: March 11th faces off with Vipers Hosting.
