Fall 2016 Week #12

OTHC Members,

Playoff STANDINGS are Updated/ Posted Below->
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving… and wishing best of Luck to all of our Teams as Playoff Runs continue. Points-Based round moves to 2nd round, with 2 Points for every win and 1 for a Tie, many teams end up close in the Standings. Keep in mind that Goals Against(GA) becomes an important determining factor. At the bottom of this message is a look at the Stats & Standings from our Regular Season play. OverTime format will continue to be the same as used in Regular Season Play (5-on-5 for 5 mins). Only the Final Night of play becomes a Sudden-Death format.
We give Thanks for our Members. Alumni and currently registered Players are always welcome to attend our Events. We have some good feedback from Kevin Ammerman and Brian Brown who were able to skate with family this past Friday morning. We will try to get another Thanksgiving Father/Son skate scheduled in the future.

End of Season Banquet
Our Captains and I have discussed plans for a Tailgating gathering for the last week of play. We could present some Awards and share a bite. If everyone brings a small dish we could pull this off. Please let your Captain know if you are in favor; and what you could bring if so.

Thank You,
OTHC Commissioner

Fall 2016 Week #11

OTHC Members,
The Black Friday Iron Man Tournament (announcement is below) has extra room in the OTHC Division…Please consider joining us for a fun Skate to work off some of that Thanksgiving meal. Notify Sterry immediately.
FINAL STANDINGS are Updated/ Posted Below-> (due to Byes, and some teams not playing 11 Games yet, the Final Standings are based only on each team’s first (10) Games. This doesn’t change our projections from last week when we plugged-in teams into the Schedule). Because a few teams still have not taken their Byes yet, we are still working out the last 2 weeks of Schedule on how to fit them into  a 3-Round, Point-based structure of Playoffs.
NOTE: Standings on website are not correct because they have not been adjusted.  Correct standings are below.
Congratulations to Red Storm for a First place finish! Jason Hoffman has asked that I make mention that many teams have shown poor attendance during the Sunday after Thanksgiving in past years. Don’t let us know you need a Goalie at the last minute…let us know tonightso it can be worked out.
And, Good Luck to all of our Teams as we begin our Playoff Runs. The top finishing Teams have earned their way into an easier Schedule run of playing the teams finishing with a weaker showing in the Standings It will be a Points-Based Tournament for 3 weeks. With 2 Points for every win and 1 for a Tie, many teams end up close in the Standings. Keep in mind that Goals Against(GA) becomes an important determining factor. At the bottom of this message is a look at the Stats & Standings from our Regular Season play. Over-Time format will continue to be the same as used in Regular Season Play (5-on-5 for 5 mins). Only the Final Night of play becomes a Sudden-Death format.

Black Friday Iron Man Tournament:
This is always the most popular, most fun tournament of the year. Beer and Food included!! Rozy and John Gabs have full Teams. Hutch has a few openings, and we need just one more team to round out the pack.
Hope to see you there…
 When: Friday November 25, 2016
Where: Revolution Ice Center
What time: Games begin promptly at 2pm and go until we’re done (generally around 11pm)
Food and Beverages are provided to all tournament participants. Wristbands available to purchase for non-participants

Locker Room Talk
I recommend you never forget about Beer-Duty. Here is a transcript of the roasting given to Blue Squid #33, “Canadian Mike” as verified by your commissioner. All of you are welcome to join in:

Canadian Mike: “I’m in boys and I’ll bring beer since I screwed you guys last time, eh.
John Kennedy: “Are you sure?
CM:  “No worries, I got this. I’m going to bring a little extra so we can celebrate the end of the season, eh.
JK:  “Good idea. Game time 9:45pm”
CM: 9:45p, “yup, I got this, eh.

—9:40—
Bachman: “Yo, has anyone seen Canadian Mike?
JK:   “He’ll be here for sure, he’s got beer”
BB: “ Bro, that kid is cutting it close, and I’m thirsty. Guess I’m not going to get my pre-game buzz.

—10:00—
Hank:  “It’s a good thing this game is delayed, gives Mike a chance to still make it.
JK:  “He’s a man of his word, he’ll be here.
Hank:” Awesome, I’m already thirsty!

—11:15—
Tommy:  “Nice game boys! 4-2 win, that felt good. You know what would really feel good?
Wettstein:  “I don’t know, maybe a Labatt?
Jeff:  “Yeah, that would good really nice with my hat trick tonight.
Becker:  “It’s alright boys, we’ll steal Mera’s beer”

—12:00am—
CM:  …..?…..

Thank You,
OTHC Commissioner

Last Regular Season Week

OTHC Members,
Tonight is our last week of the Regular season. Looks like it is a very tight race in the middle of the pack…the Pollsters and Pundits have been known to be wrong before!  STANDINGS are Posted Below->  Next Sunday begins OTHC Playoffs. Since we are not yet 100% sure of the finishes, we’ll finalize the complete Schedule after tonight Results are confirmed. We do have enough to at least project what next Sunday’s Schedule will be(keeping it as it was originally listed). However, the remainder of the Schedule (beginning with 11/27) was only a Placeholder and will naturally, be very different than the original Schedule at the beginning of the season.
I checked in with Dave at-Triple S Gourmet to see how it went with the Food Truck (the only week I was not present). Unfortunately, it was not enough business for them to cover employees & costs. I appreciate our staunch regular supporters showing up and doing their best, but the Truck won’t be coming back anytime soon. Maybe we can talk about a Banquet for the last week of Play to make it interesting?

Tailgating?

meatThe topic of Tailgating was raised by many of you, so here is a first attempt to jumpstart our Tradition. Bobbi Fedele of MisFits is bringing Pulled-Pork sandwiches for about 50 tonight. Many Captains agreed we need to do something. One idea was to go with a Food Truck. With Al Marcincavage and “What the Fork” no longer available, we need other Options? Please Reply with some references to help get things rolling, possibly for next Sunday.

Tailgating?

  • Yes, this is my Sunday dinner; I prefer when teams bring food in. (40%, 4 Votes)
  • No, I'm playing hockey to lose weight! (30%, 3 Votes)
  • Yes, a food truck would be ideal because I'm too lazy to bring something in when it's my team's turn. (30%, 3 Votes)

OTHC Schedule and Standings

The regular season schedule has been posted along with scores and standings.  If you see an error, let me know in the comments.

Next Sunday is “Mischief night”.  In year’s past, we saw some great costumes from our Players… what about this year? Hat Trick Hockey is offering Free Sharpening coupons to the top 3 costumes! We are also inviting all ‘IBold’/OTHC alumni for Halloween Hockey Homecoming. We need guys like Frank Valeski in” Making OTHC Scary again”.

One Scary subject is the OTHC “DL” is full of Injured more players than ever this season!
One more on the list is #74, MisFit’s Sam Bayoumi. With no Shoulder Pads, Sam easily broke his collar bone in the game vs Loons when he went into the end-boards extremely hard. In talking with Sam, he now has a different attitude on Equipment for Men’s League. A basic pair of Shoulder Pads would have lessened the impact and been the difference between broken bones and bruises. He is also Upgrading his Helmet and changing his Visor to a Cage; after a few close calls and filling out the USA Hockey Accident form: “what type of Visor/Cage were you wearing?”.   Naturally, we have the best Pro-Shop in the USA right in your Rink to help get him equipped.

But SERIOUSLY, it’s only a matter of time before you take a puck or stick in the chops or crash into the boards with your head or shoulders. A deep rut, a trip, a deflection of a stray puck or an errant stick is unforeseen, but common in our sport. Many players I have talked to, have learned that lesson the hard way when we compare battle scars… I have suffered a concussion, a broken Ankle and snapped a Collar bone, myself. So, we just want to pass along some good advice to wear solid Protective gear, because it’s a very expensive trip to the OR, and we can’t afford to lose anyone else to the DL!

One other mention, I was told by the Officials that you have been warned and will be called for a Minor Penalty for not having a unique Number on your Jersey THIS WEEK! Please stop in the shop and let us Press one on with 10 Mins of your time. It was pointed out to me that the Storm have Two #22’s and two #7’s, so decide before tonight. We need this straight for Penalties and Scoring…Thanks!

OTHC Update

OTHC Members,

Thanks to the Majority of Members for completing Registration. Many of you took care of it as it is expected(by Week #1). But, we still have some delinquents and need them to take care of these TWO items needing immediate Attention:

#1. You will absolutely need to bring USA Hockey Print Out. Apparently, the Number by itself is not working for Lookups because of Address mismatches and the Rink needs to have the Receipt in paper form!

#2. You must be Paid/Registered with Rink   The OTHC League Registration Form is Attached if you would like to breeze through line tonight….Details are below ->
NOTE: This is the last week that the front Office will be Staffed for your convenience. Marge was scheduled one extra night(tonight). They have been available the last 4 sessions. After tonight, you must make arrangements to come in to the rink on during daytime Hours to settle up. Anyone with outstanding balance or Registration will not be permitted to take the ice.

REGISTRATION:

USA Hockey expires on 8/31, so make sure you renew at:                  https://www.usahockeyregistration.com/login_input.action

Congratulations are in order, as The Summer SBC Cup was presented to the Waterbury Wolverines in the Championship Game. It was a great game, 6-4 upsetting the Mustangs, that played a tough one… It was an easy call to name John Crognale as the MVP, as he was all over the ice and the score sheet!
